Openly Home Insurance Agent in Illinois
Openly writes premium homeowners insurance sold through independent agents, and Longmeadow quotes it for Illinois homes. Openly’s primary-home policies use an HO-5 form, which covers the house and your belongings for any direct physical loss that is not excluded, with guaranteed replacement cost up to $5 million and liability up to $1 million. For the North Shore’s older and higher-value homes, that combination is the reason we often put an Openly quote next to the others.
Openly describes itself as a general agency and program administrator: it designs the policies and handles service, while unaffiliated insurance companies underwrite them. According to Openly, those carrier partners are rated A or A- (Excellent) by AM Best, and each insurer is responsible for paying the claims on its own policies. Openly lists Illinois among the states where it writes homeowners insurance.
What an Openly Policy Covers
| Home | Openly form | Main coverages |
|---|---|---|
| Your primary home | HO-5 | Dwelling with guaranteed replacement cost up to $5 million, open-peril personal property, liability up to $1 million |
| A second home | HO-5 | Dwelling, personal property, liability and loss of use |
| A home you rent to others | HO-3 | Property damage, loss of rental income and liability |
Openly also offers blanket coverage of up to $100,000 for categories of personal property, along with optional water backup, equipment breakdown and other endorsements. Which options apply depends on the home and the quote.
Why Openly Fits North Shore Homes
Two problems come up again and again on Wilmette, Winnetka and Evanston homes. The first is a dwelling limit that no longer matches what it would cost to rebuild, especially on older houses with plaster, millwork and masonry. Guaranteed replacement cost pays eligible rebuilding costs beyond the dwelling limit when the policy’s conditions are met, which closes much of that gap. Our post on replacement cost vs. market value explains why the two numbers drift apart.
The second is personal property written on a named-peril basis, which covers only the specific causes the policy names. An HO-5 form covers belongings on an open-peril basis instead, so an accident that is not specifically excluded is covered. Jewelry, art and collections can still need their own limits, and our valuable items page covers when blanket coverage is enough and when scheduling makes sense.
What We Check on an Openly Quote
- Guaranteed replacement cost conditions. These policies usually require the home to be insured to its estimated replacement cost and changes such as renovations to be reported. We confirm the estimate before binding.
- Water backup. The endorsement limit should be sized to the cost of restoring a finished basement, not left at a default figure. See our guide to sewer backup vs. flood insurance.
- Liability and umbrella. Openly’s liability limit goes up to $1 million, and an umbrella should be set to sit on top of it.
- Deductibles. The all-peril and wind and hail deductibles should be chosen together, with an eye on the claims you would file.
- Flood. Like every homeowners policy, an Openly policy does not cover flood, which needs its own policy.
Openly Next to the Other Carriers We Quote
Openly is one option, not the default. For some homes Erie or another carrier will price better or fit the household’s cars and umbrella more neatly, and for very high-value homes a dedicated high-value carrier may be the better structure. Tom Firestine, CPCU, RPLU, has over two decades in insurance, and we lay the quotes side by side so the differences in form, limits and price are clear. Our high-value home insurance page covers the larger homes in more detail.
